Life in Budapest

Food: Hungarian cuisine is mostly centered on meat and dairy, the effect of the nomadic lifestyle of the Magyars, the country’s primary ethnic group. However, Hungarian food also incorporates a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and is considered the spiciest in Europe.

Onyx Restaurant is a Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant focusing on Hungarian cuisine with a modern twist, while Costes Downtown serves innovative Hungarian dishes in a contemporary setting. Kispiac Bisztró offers Hungarian comfort food made from locally sourced ingredients. Pozsonyi Kisvendéglő is regarded as one of the best Hungarian restaurants in Budapest.

Drink: Szimpla Kert is one of Budapest’s most famous ruin pubs, known for its eclectic decor and vibrant atmosphere. Other breweries to visit include Élesztő, First Craft Beer & BBQ, and FIRST Local Craft Beer and Kitchen. Open-air garden pubs from spring to Autumn: Budapest Garden, Wasser, Kabin, Zöld Küllő, Dürer Kert, and Kertem.

Culture and Music: Theaters: Madách Theatre, Víg Theatre, Operett Theatre, and the Hungarian Opera House. Concert places: Budapest Park, A38 Ship, Kobuci Kert, and Akvárium.

Places to Visit: Buda Castle, Hungarian Parliament Building, Fisherman’s Bastion, Thermal Baths, Chain Bridge, Shoes on the Danube Bank, Heroes’ Square, Great Market Hall, Dohány Street Synagogue, Andrássy Avenue, Margaret Island, and Gellért Hill.
