Food and Drink: Pre-colonial Filipino cuisine has been influenced by neighboring countries, as well as by Chinese merchants who frequented the country to engage in trade. During the Spanish colonial period, the Spaniards not only brought with them Spanish and Mexican cooking techniques, but also crops from the Americas. When the US colonized the country right after Spain, the Americans brought with them fast food and canned goods like corned beef and Spam.
One of the most beloved restaurants in Metro Manila is the Aristocrat, which dates back to the 1930s.
